JCCTA
is a vital advocate for retaining, maintaining, upgrading and creating new
tennis facilities in Jefferson County. JCCTA coordinates and promotes
programs and training with agencies and schools to provide tennis
opportunities for children and adults.
Fort Worden State
Park
JCCTA assisted Fort
Worden State Park in grant writing and fundraising to resurface two
outdoor lighted tennis courts, replace posts and nets, and make ADA
improvements surrounding the courts in June 2007. The court project
brought Friends of Fort Worden, Peninsula College, Jefferson County Parks
and Recreation and JCCTA together as partners with Fort Worden State Park
to develop tennis programming for park guests, visitors and members of the
community on the resurfaced courts.
Mountain View
Elementary
JCCTA members are working to make Mountain View Elementary School tennis
courts playable for USTA Jr. Team Tennis, after-school rallyball and short
court tennis for area youths. Nets, net posts and a backboard were
installed in 2007. Special thanks to Port Hadlock Building Supply and
Boeing Bluebills for the backboard!
Community
Assistance
JCCTA brings tennis
training courses to coaches, volunteers and parents.
JCCTA sponsors a
“Racket Rally” to collect tennis equipment from the community for use in
partner programs.
JCCTA tournament
proceeds provide tennis scholarships to Jefferson County students from
ages 10 to 18 years old.
Facility
Improvement
Port Townsend
High School courts - We have an opportunity to help maintain the PTHS
tennis courts. The courts should be resurfaced to help prevent
deterioration and cracking. While pressure washing help remove years of
mold and accumulated dirt, it also revealed the pitting and need to
“repaint” before more of the base layers are exposed. Please help support
obtaining a matching grant from the USTA/PNW and contribute to the project
to offset school bond costs, and help us get the courts resurfaced during
the summer of 2008.
Fort Worden
State Park has purchased a blower/vac to help maintain the courts this
year. New water fountains and gate repair are on the work list this
spring. Enjoy the courts, and please provide the park service feedback on
how they are doing and how much the courts are appreciated in our
community.
During the last year our
community came together and accomplished quite a lot through the efforts
of volunteers and community organizations, schools, and businesses. Over
600 children had the opportunity to learn tennis through PE school
programs, recess tennis programs with volunteers from JCCTA, Jefferson
County YMCA after school and summer camp programs, a tennis block party,
the first annual Rhody Jr. Ralleyball tournament, Jefferson County Parks
and Recreation programs and Jefferson County Community Tennis
Association’s coordination of a new USTA Jr. Team Tennis of the Olympic
Peninsula. We welcomed a number of new adult players to the game and
others who returned to playing, and we also welcomed new residents of
Jefferson County who want to meet more people to play tennis with.
Community
partnerships and donations from individuals, businesses, JCCTA and the
USTA/PNW helped maintain and improve tennis recreation facilities and
provide equipment and lessons:
