Kid's Tennis
Jefferson County has new
opportunities for kids to get out on the courts and play tennis.
High School Volunteers
needed for kid's tennis program!
High School volunteers are
needed to help with the Fall and Spring YMCA after-school tennis
programs. You can earn community service credit too! You don't have to
know how to play, just a willingness to help younger kids learn the
game. JCCTA will offer a free tennis lesson to high school volunteers
and help with training! Contact Bill Kush at the YMCA, 385-5811 for
more information.

indoor tennis.
Try your hand at designing a
t-shirt logo for the 2008 Rhody Jr. Rallyball Tournament. Entries must
be emailed, and designed to be printed in 1-2 colors. Deadline for
entries will be in March 2008.

Here is your chance to meet Olympians at the
National Finals of the USTA Rapid Rally Tennis portion of the U.S. Jr.
Olympic Skills Competition. Start your journey by participating in a
local qualifying event, advance to Regional Competitions and then
possibly the National Finals in mid August. This basic tennis skills
event lets you compete against yourself and the clock to hit a low
compression tennis ball against a wall (above the Net Line) and stand
behind the Rally Line (15 feet from wall) as many times as possible in
30 seconds.
Here is
how it works: The volunteers measure out the competition area and
adhere the Serve Target and the Rally and Net Lines as described in
the Administrative Handbook (click HERE
for Handbook). When you are ready, you start
with an over-head lob serve and try to hit the Serve Target for three
(3) additional points. Once you hit your serve, this begins the clock
as you continue to Rally the ball against the wall and above the Net
Line. Remember, in order for a hit to count, you have to hit the ball
from behind the Rally Line and the ball must hit the wall above the
Net Line. Continue to Rally until the 30 second time has expired.
After completed, the volunteer tallies the number of good Rallies and
provides you with a final score. Ask your parents to help you practice
for your local Jr. Olympic Skills event. Good
